Prices and Sizes
Each price covers 7 days, delivery, pickup, and the weight shown. Your quote confirms the exact price before you book.
| Size | 7 day price | Weight included | Holds about | Common projects |
| 10 yard | $300 to $350 | 2 tons | 3 pickup loads | A bathroom, one room, a small concrete patio, subject to material approval and loading limits |
| 15 yard | $350 to $400 | 3 tons | 4 to 5 pickup loads | A garage or basement cleanout |
| 20 yard | $370 to $430 | 3 to 4 tons | 6 pickup loads | A whole house cleanout, a kitchen remodel, a one layer roof, subject to material approval and loading limits |
| 30 yard | $485 to $550 | 4 to 5 tons | 9 pickup loads | A packed estate cleanout, a large renovation |
| 40 yard | $600 to $750 | 5 to 6 tons | 12 pickup loads | Very bulky, light debris |
Extra days may be available at $10 per day, subject to availability and your quoted terms. Weight over your included allowance costs $50 to $55 per ton. Every load must also stay within the provider’s approved hauling limit, and paying an overweight fee does not make an unsafe load acceptable.
Choose the size based on both space and weight. Heavy debris can reach the hauling limit before the container is full. Tell us the material and amount so we can recommend a suitable size and loading limit.
To find the lowest total, compare the full quoted cost of a container that fits both the volume and the weight of your debris, including any extra hauls. Our dumpster prices and sizes guide explains how to choose.
City Dumpster or Private Roll Off?
The city rents its own small dumpsters. Its License and Fee Schedule, dated July 30, 2026, lists:
| Option | Size | Price listed | Rental time | Who can rent |
| City dumpster, general refuse | 4 yards | $150 | 2 days | City residential customers only, as available |
| City dumpster, shingles and building materials | 4 yards | $250 | 2 days | City residential customers only, as available |
| Our 10 yard roll off | 10 yards | $300 to $350 | 7 days | Homes and businesses, subject to service area |
The city request form says payment comes before drop off, and each extra empty costs the full price again. A city box suits a small job at a city home. For a roof, a full cleanout, a longer project, a township address, or a business, a larger roll off may fit better. Confirm the city container’s loading limits, accepted materials, and additional charges before comparing totals.
Curbside Pickup and Its Limits
City crews collect household refuse and yard waste weekly. Recycling, heavy items, and brush are collected monthly (DPW schedule lookup). Look up your days by street address.
City Council approved updated curbside refuse rules on March 13, 2023, effective July 1, 2023. Confirm heavy item limits and construction and remodeling debris acceptance with the Department of Public Works at (989) 837 6900 before setting anything out. For debris that exceeds the city’s accepted materials or collection limits, a dumpster can help you clear the project without waiting for several collection dates.
Landfill Trips or a Dumpster?
The city runs its own landfill at 4311 East Ashman Street (EGLE listing), phone (989) 837 6988. Midland County households may qualify for one free visit per month with up to 3 cubic yards from their personal residence. Confirm eligibility and material charges before your trip.
Simple math for household refuse: hauling 20 cubic yards of household refuse yourself takes about 7 trips with a 3 yard trailer. That trip count is a volume estimate; heavy debris and your trailer’s safe towing limit can mean more trips. If the first 3 yards qualify for the free monthly visit, the other 17 yards at $12 cost about $204, plus your loading, driving, and time. Remodel debris is billed at the higher demolition rate, so get a landfill quote for that material. A 20 yard dumpster costs about $370 to $430 for 7 days, delivered and hauled away. For a few small loads, the landfill is often cheaper. For a remodel, roof, or full cleanout, a dumpster usually saves trips.
Projects That May Need a Dumpster
- Roof replacements. Shingles are heavy, so a 10 or 20 yard is often the right size. See our roofing dumpster rental page.
- Kitchen, bathroom, and basement remodels. Ask the city whether your project needs a building permit before work starts. A 15 or 20 yard usually fits, depending on the amount of debris. See our construction dumpster rental page.
- Estate, garage, and move out cleanouts. Furniture and boxes can be bulky; carpet, books, and dense items can add substantial weight. See our residential dumpster rental page.
- Demolition. The city posts demolition standards and a permit application. Read them before you plan a teardown.
- Business and rental cleanouts. Confirm current commercial service requirements with the city. See our commercial dumpster rental page.
Placement and Street Permits
Keeping the dumpster on your own property is the simplest choice. Measure first: a 10 or 15 yard is about 12 to 14 feet long, and the 20, 30, and 40 yard boxes are about 22 feet long. Choose a provider approved hard, level surface entirely outside the road right of way, and tell us about new concrete, pavers, ditches, overhead wires, low branches, and gates. Ask about boards under the rails. Before delivery, tell us:
- The driveway length and width, and whether it slopes.
- Overhead clearance from wires, trees, and roof lines.
- Gates, fences, parked cars, or tight turns along the way in.
- Where you want the box and which way the door should face.
Private property placement entirely outside the public right of way generally avoids a street permit. If the dumpster must go in the street, on a sidewalk, or on the lawn strip by the curb, contact the city’s Engineering Department through City Hall first and confirm the permit and fee. Confirm the boundary near the sidewalk or curb before delivery.

Brush and Yard Waste
Michigan law limits yard waste in landfills, so keep grass, leaves, and brush out of a trash dumpster.
For a large lot clearing, ask us before you book. See our yard waste dumpster page.
Loading and What Stays Out
- Keep debris below the top edge or the provider’s lower marked fill line. Every load must stay within the provider’s approved hauling limit.
- Load heavy, flat items low and spread the weight evenly.
- Liquid paint, chemicals, tires, car batteries, lithium batteries, propane tanks, and asbestos stay out. See what can go in a dumpster.
- For propane tanks, ask a propane dealer whether it accepts your tank for return, exchange, or disposal.
Service Area and ZIP Codes
These overlaps come from Statistical Atlas pages for 48640 and 48642, not the Postal Service. A township address follows township trash rules, not city rules. Confirm delivery coverage using your full street address, since ZIP boundaries and city boundaries differ.
| ZIP code | Mailing city | Notes |
| 48640 | Midland | Also reaches nearby townships such as Homer, Lee, and Ingersoll |
| 48642 | Midland | Also reaches nearby townships such as Larkin, Lincoln, and Williams |
