Yard waste dumpster rental in Saginaw, MI starts at about $300 for a 10 yard and about $370 to $430 for a 20 yard, for 7 days. Every price includes delivery, pickup, and a set weight allowance. Yard Waste Dumpster Sizes

What Size Dumpster for Yard Waste?

Here is what common Saginaw yard jobs usually need, from a fall leaf cleanup to a landscape debris dumpster for a full yard redo. These are rough planning estimates, not measured data. Based on EPA conversion factors, prunings and trimmings weigh about 127 lbs per cubic yard, loose mixed yard waste about 250 lbs, and leaves about 250 to 500 lbs. The brush rows use the 127 to 250 lb range, since most brush piles hold a mix of twigs, leaves, and small limbs. Dirt is far heavier, about 929 lbs per cubic yard in the same table, and more when wet.

The costs assume your load stays within the included weight. Weight over the allowance costs $50 to $55 per ton, and every load must stay within the hauling limit, which is the most the truck can safely carry. Wet leaves and soaked brush weigh more than dry ones, so a full 10 yard of wet leaves can pass its 2 tons. See our dumpster prices and sizes guide for every size and fee.

Michigan Yard Waste Rules

Michigan’s Yard Waste Rule, in Plain Words

Michigan law does not allow more than a small amount of yard waste to be delivered to a landfill. Leaves, grass, and brush are meant to be composted instead. That is why yard waste needs to stay separate from household trash and building debris.

For you, it means three things:

1. Keep yard waste separate from household trash and construction debris, following the receiving facility’s acceptance rules. Ask whether a green waste dumpster rental, a load of yard waste only, fits your job.
2. Keep trash, plastic, and building debris out of a yard waste load.
3. Ask before loading stumps, roots, sod, or soil. They are handled differently from leaves and brush.

City Pickup vs. Dumpster

City Yard Waste Pickup or a Dumpster?

The City of Saginaw collects yard waste on your regular trash day during the season. The 2026 season started April 6. Here is how city pickup works:

1. Use paper yard waste bags or 20 to 35 gallon cans with a yard waste sticker.
2. Keep each bag or can under 50 lbs, and set it out by 7 a.m.
3. Put out one tied bundle of brush a week with your trash. Check the city’s current rules for the maximum bundle length and branch thickness before you cut.

That works for a normal week of mowing and raking. For a tree removal, a storm, or a full landscape job, the one bundle a week limit can stretch cleanup over months. A suitably sized dumpster for yard waste can reduce repeated curbside pickups, though larger jobs may need additional hauls. The city also has a compost site at 2410 Veterans Memorial Pkwy. Check with the city for current hours and fees before you go.

Can I burn brush instead?

Inside the city, that is not a practical option. Michigan’s environment agency says burning trees, logs, brush, or stumps must be at least 1,400 feet from the boundary of an incorporated city or village, and a burn permit is needed whenever the ground is not fully covered by snow.

Yard Dumpster Placement

Placing a Yard Waste Dumpster

Place the dumpster on a hard, level surface entirely outside the public right of way. Confirm the boundary if placement is near the sidewalk or curb. A loaded dumpster can sink into a soft lawn and leave ruts. Tell us about available approach space, overhead wires, and access restrictions so we can confirm delivery requirements. Look up for low limbs too. If the dumpster has to sit in the street, call the city Engineering Division at (989) 759 1410 for a permit first. Our dumpster permit guide explains the city rule.

Saginaw Storm Cleanup

Storm Cleanup in Saginaw

After a summer storm or an ice storm drops limbs across your yard, a yard debris dumpster can reduce repeated trips and curbside pickups. Larger cleanups may require additional hauls. Before you start, stay clear of downed power lines and call your utility. Wait until it is safe to work.

Storm debris is often mixed: limbs plus fence boards, shingles, or siding. That is not a yard waste only load. Tell us what is in the pile when you call, so we can size the dumpster and handle the load the right way. Delivery and pickup run Monday to Friday.

Dumpster or City Drop Off What Saginaw Residents Should Know
Accepted Yard Waste

What Can Go in a Yard Waste Dumpster

Ask first: stumps, roots, whole trunks, sod, soil, rock, and leaves in plastic bags

Accepted Materials

Usually accepted: leaves, grass clippings, brush, branches and limbs cut to fit, shrubs, hedge trimmings, and garden plants. For the full list, see what can go in a dumpster.

Prohibited Materials

Not accepted: household trash, treated or painted wood, fence boards and other building debris in a yard waste only load, pesticides, fertilizers, fuel, and other chemicals.

Stumps, roots, and whole trees

Stumps and root balls are dense and heavy, and many yard waste loads do not take them. Confirm acceptance and maximum piece dimensions before cutting or loading trunks and large limbs. Cut limbs and trunks into pieces that lie flat, and ask before you add a stump. A tree service can grind a stump in place if it cannot go in the dumpster.

Sod, soil, and rock

Soil is several times heavier than brush. At the listed density, about 4.3 cubic yards of soil reaches the 2 tons included in a 10 yard, long before the box looks full. Denser or wetter soil reaches that allowance sooner. Keep sod and soil out of a brush load, and ask about a separate load. For rock and broken concrete, see our concrete dumpster rental page.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yard Waste Dumpster FAQs

Yes, in a load meant for yard waste. Michigan law keeps more than a small amount of yard waste out of landfills, so leaves and brush should not be mixed with trash. Ask about a yard waste only load when you call.

You do not need bags to fill a dumpster. Loose leaves are easiest to handle. If your leaves are already bagged, ask before loading plastic bags, since they do not belong in compost.

Confirm trunk, limb size, stump, and root ball acceptance before loading. If trunks and limbs are accepted, cut them into pieces that lie flat in the box. Large limbs and trunk sections are much heavier than brush, so we size those loads when you call.

A chipper works well for small branches if you want mulch. For big limbs, leaves, sod, or a mix of storm debris, a dumpster is usually simpler. Compare the rental cost and your time.

Delivery runs Monday to Friday. Call (989) 831 9600, and we will give you the next open delivery day before you book.

For a normal week of yard work, city pickup is usually the cheaper choice. A dumpster makes sense when you have more than the weekly limits allow and want it gone in one rental.
