Prices and Sizes
Each price covers 7 days, delivery, pickup, and the weight shown. Your quote confirms the exact price before you book.
| Size | 7 day price | Weight included | Approximate pickup truck loads | Common projects |
| 10 yard | $300 to $350 | 2 tons | About 3 | A bathroom, one room, a small concrete patio, subject to material approval and loading limits |
| 15 yard | $350 to $400 | 3 tons | About 4 to 5 | A garage or basement cleanout |
| 20 yard | $370 to $430 | 3 to 4 tons | About 6 | A whole house cleanout, a kitchen remodel, a one layer roof, subject to material approval and loading limits |
| 30 yard | $485 to $550 | 4 to 5 tons | About 9 | A packed estate cleanout, a large renovation |
| 40 yard | $600 to $750 | 5 to 6 tons | About 12 | Very bulky, light debris |
Pickup truck equivalents vary by truck bed size and loading.
Extra days may be available at $10 per day, subject to availability and your quoted terms. Weight over your included allowance costs $50 to $55 per ton. Every load must also stay within the provider’s approved hauling limit, and paying an overweight fee does not make an unsafe load acceptable.
Choose the size based on both space and weight. Heavy debris can reach the hauling limit before the container is full. Tell us the material and amount so we can recommend a suitable size and loading limit. Our dumpster prices and sizes guide explains how to choose.
What Curbside Pickup Will Not Take
GFL is the city’s trash hauler. The city’s trash and recycle page lists these rules:
- Trash goes out every Wednesday, by 6 a.m. or the night before. Recycling is every other Wednesday.
- Large items such as furniture, appliances, stoves, water heaters, and grills go out on trash day. Refrigeration units must be free of Freon, and doors must come off.
- Carpet must be rolled and tied in 4 foot sections, with no more than 16 bundles at one time.
- Not collected: concrete and bricks, tree stumps, railroad ties, cyclone fencing, car parts, gasoline and oil, hazardous waste, and yard waste mixed with trash.
Check the 2026 GFL calendar for holiday changes affecting your collection day. Confirm construction and remodeling debris acceptance with GFL at (989) 753 7719 before setting it out. For debris the curb will not take, such as an old patio or a torn out fence, ask us whether the material is approved for a dumpster and what loading limits apply.
Projects That May Need a Dumpster
- Patio, walk, and fence removal. City curbside crews do not collect concrete, bricks, or chain link fencing. Ask us whether we accept your material and what loading limits apply before booking. Concrete is very heavy, so loads are limited by weight, not just space.
- Roof replacements. Shingles are heavy, so a 10 or 20 yard is often the right size. See our roofing dumpster rental page.
- Kitchen, bathroom, and basement remodels. A 15 or 20 yard usually fits, depending on the amount of debris. See our construction dumpster rental page.
- Estate, garage, and move out cleanouts. Furniture and boxes can be bulky; carpet, books, and dense items can add substantial weight. See our residential dumpster rental page.
Yard Waste and Brush
Michigan law limits yard waste in landfills, so keep grass, leaves, and brush out of a trash dumpster. The city’s yard waste page lists:
- Collection starts April 1 and runs on Wednesdays with trash. Set yard waste 10 feet from your rubbish.
- Use 20 to 32 gallon cans clearly marked as yard waste, or brown paper yard waste bags under 35 pounds each.
- Branches must be under 4 inches in diameter and cut into 3 or 4 foot lengths. Tie them with string into bundles no more than 18 inches around.
Tree stumps are not collected at the curb. For a large lot clearing, ask us before you book. See our yard waste dumpster page.
Placement and Permits
Keeping the dumpster on your own property is the simplest choice. Measure first: a 10 or 15 yard is about 12 to 14 feet long, and the 20, 30, and 40 yard boxes are about 22 feet long. Choose a provider approved hard, level surface entirely outside the road right of way.
Before delivery, tell us:
- The driveway length and width, and whether it slopes.
- Overhead clearance from wires, trees, and roof lines.
- Gates, fences, parked cars, or tight turns along the way in.
- Where you want the box and which way the door should face.
Permits: City Hall at 113 East Elm Street, (989) 662 6761, issues fence, sign, and sidewalk and driveway permits. Building permits start with the City Zoning Officer and then go to the Township Code Authority for state code review (city permits page). City Hall is open Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and closed Friday, so call early in the week.
Contact City Hall before placing a dumpster on a city street, sidewalk, or within the public right of way. On county roads outside the city, the Bay County Road Commission requires a permit for work in its right of way. Confirm any requirements for your planned location before delivery.
Loading and What Stays Out
- Keep debris below the top edge or the provider’s lower marked fill line. Every load must stay within the provider’s approved hauling limit.
- Load heavy, flat items low and spread the weight evenly.
- Liquid paint, chemicals, tires, car batteries, lithium batteries, propane tanks, and asbestos stay out. See what can go in a dumpster.
- For propane tanks, ask a propane dealer whether it accepts your tank for return, exchange, or disposal.

Service Area and ZIP 48611
| ZIP code | Mailing city | Notes |
| 48611 | Auburn | Covers the city and Williams Township (Wikipedia) |
A 48611 address may be in Williams Township, not the city. The rules differ: Williams Township uses GFL on Tuesdays, while city trash goes out on Wednesdays. For an address outside the city, confirm the responsible road authority before planning any placement within the public right of way. Confirm delivery coverage using your full street address, since ZIP boundaries and city boundaries differ.
We also serve Midland, Bay City, Freeland and Tittabawassee Township, and the City of Saginaw.
