  3. Get the spot ready. Clear room for the truck, and get a city permit if the box will sit in the street.
  4. Load it the right way. Keep debris below the top edge, spread the weight, and keep banned items out.
  5. Call for pickup. We haul the load away for disposal, and the load is weighed.

How Does Dumpster Rental Work

How Does Dumpster Rental Work, Step by Step?

Step 1: Call and get a quote

Booking with Saginaw Bin Rentals is by phone only. We answer Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern. Have these ready when you call:

  • The delivery address
  • The job, such as a garage cleanout, a kitchen remodel, or a roof
  • What the debris is, and whether any of it is heavy, like shingles, concrete, or dirt
  • Where you want the box to sit
  • The day you want it and how long you need it

Book a few days ahead when you can. Call ahead to check availability for your preferred delivery day.

Step 2: Choose a size and a drop spot

Dumpsters are sized by cubic yards of space, not by length. Each price below covers 7 days, delivery, pickup, and the weight shown.

Dumpster Size7-Day PriceIncluded WeightTruck LoadsCommon Projects
10 Yard$300–$3502 TonsAbout 3Small Cleanouts, Patios, Roofing
15 Yard$350–$4003 TonsAbout 4–5Garages, Basements, Bathrooms

30 Yard$485–$5504–5 TonsAbout 9Estate Cleanouts, Large Renovations
40 Yard$600–$7505–6 TonsAbout 12Commercial Cleanouts, Bulky Projects

Pickup truck equivalents vary by truck bed size and loading. Heavy debris fills the weight allowance before it fills the box, so it often goes in a smaller size. Tell us what you are tossing, and we will suggest a size. Our dumpster prices and sizes guide compares them in detail.

Step 3: Get the spot ready

Roll off trucks need much more room than the box itself. Tell us your driveway width, overhead clearance, and access limits. We will confirm the space our delivery truck needs. Before delivery day:

  • Move cars, trailers, and anything else out of the drop spot and the path to it.
  • Open gates and unlock them.
  • Look up for wires and low branches over the spot.
  • Pick a flat, hard surface. A slope or soft grass is not a safe spot.
  • Tell us if your concrete is new or if you have pavers, and ask about boards under the rails.
  • In winter, clear snow and ice from the drop spot so the truck has traction.

Measure your driveway first. A 10 or 15 yard is about 12 to 14 feet long, and the 20, 30, and 40 yard boxes are about 22 feet long, so a shorter box may fit where a longer one will not. Place the dumpster entirely outside the public right of way, and keep it clear of sidewalks, the curb line, fire hydrants, and storm drains. If it must sit in a City of Saginaw street or alley, you need a permit from the city Engineering Division first, at (989) 759 1410.

Our dumpster permit guide explains the rule. If you will not be home on delivery day, tell us when you call. Mark the spot clearly and keep the path open so the driver can place the box.

Step 4: Load it the right way

  • Keep debris below the top edge, or below the provider’s lower marked fill line for heavy materials. An overfilled box may not be safe to haul.
  • Load heavy, flat items low and spread the weight evenly.
  • Break down furniture and fill gaps with bags.
  • Keep liquid paint, chemicals, tires, car batteries, lithium batteries, propane tanks, and asbestos out. See what can go in a dumpster.
  • Keep yard waste separate. Michigan law limits yard waste in landfills. See our yard waste dumpster rental page.
  • Planning a teardown? Older buildings may contain asbestos. Check the state notice rules on our construction dumpster rental page first.
  • Rain and snow add weight to an open load. Ask about covering it between loading days.
  • Do not move the box yourself. Call us if it needs to shift.

If the box fills before the job is done, ask us whether a swap or a second haul fits your job, and what it costs.

Step 5: Call for pickup

Call us when the box is full or your job is done. Before the truck comes, close the door if the box has one and clear the path again.

Saginaw Bin Rentals hauls the load away for disposal. The load is weighed, and weight over your allowance costs $50 to $55 per ton. Extra days past your rental period can also add to the final bill.

Delivery and Pickup Planning

Plan Around Weekday Delivery and Pickup

Saginaw Bin Rentals delivers and picks up Monday to Friday only. That shapes your timing:

  • For a weekend cleanout, book delivery for Thursday or Friday so the box is waiting on Saturday morning.
  • Your 7 days are calendar days, including weekends. We confirm your rental start date and scheduled pickup date when you book.
  • If you finish early, call for pickup any weekday. The 7 day price stays the same.
